If you want fresh video content working for you from January, the time to plan it is now, before the holiday rush. Here's the approach we use with clients when we're mapping out a year of video.

Good video content planning starts with goals, not with ideas for videos. What does your business need to achieve in 2027? You might be hiring for a growing team, opening in a new region, launching a service or trying to win more work in a particular industry.
The more specific the goal, the easier it is to plan. "Hire ten site managers by June" gives you a much clearer brief than "improve our brand". Once the goal is clear, you can work out which videos will actually help get you there.
Before making anything new, look at what's already on your website, YouTube channel and social pages. For each video, ask:
Is it still accurate? Do the people, offices and messages still reflect how your business looks today?
Is it still relevant? Have your services, team or priorities changed?
Does it support next year's goals? A great brand film might not say much to the people you're trying to recruit.
You'll usually find a few videos that still work, some that just need a re-edit, and some clear gaps.
This is where planning pays off. Getting people scheduled, booking locations and having everyone ready on the day is often the hardest part of any shoot. So once you've done that, make the most of it.
With some planning, one shoot day can cover a main brand or recruitment video, short cuts for LinkedIn and Instagram, staff or customer stories, and updated photography. Each video can also become a blog post or social post, which helps your SEO too.
Write down everything you'd ideally like to make, then prioritise by goal, budget and timing. It's easier to scale back a big list than to work out later what you missed.
A bit of time spent now can save a lot of rushing later. As a video production company in Auckland, we work with businesses across New Zealand to plan content around real goals, from recruitment and case studies to corporate and social video.
