Using Video Production to Enhance Employee Training Programs in New Zealand

Training and induction videos save you repeating the same session over and over. Film it once, properly, and every new starter gets the same training, any time, on any site. In-person training still has its place for hands-on practice, and video makes that time go further.

Video vs in-person training

In-person training costs a trainer and the trainee their time every session, and quality depends on who is running it that day. A video costs more once, then very little each time it is used. It works best for things you teach often and that do not change every month: safety, processes, product knowledge and inductions.

Formats that work

  • Induction videos: welcome, values, site safety and who is who.
  • How-to and process videos: step by step on the real equipment. See our Laminex how-to series.
  • Short modules: two to five minutes each, easier to update than one long video.
  • Interview-led sessions: experienced people sharing advice.

For Chartered Accountants ANZ we filmed a Career Series used in training sessions at universities across New Zealand, with four sessions of 20 to 25 minutes plus a seven minute highlights cut. Cost
